Trustworthiness is like integrity; you can’t measure it but you sure know when it’s not there.
Integrity has much to do with being honest with and keeping promises to yourself. No one else will know if you break your own promises but you.
Trustworthiness is demonstrated by your character and proficiency – both personal and professional. It’s what the rest of the world sees. We earn trust by giving it, and one of the ways we do this is by keeping our word and the commitments we make to others.
A meaningful personal or business relationship cannot exist if trust is not present.
Trust is the key to all relationships. – Stephen R. Covey

Create More Team Conflict September 28, 2011

More than a few posts here have targeted the negative side of team conflict; now it’s the other side’s turn.
Conflict is a necessary component of any team. An absence of conflict can mean a lack of engagement by team members, and a lack of engagement results in bored people and boring meetings.
A leader must strive for and promote constructive (as opposed to destructive) conflict; the kind that forces the team to get out of its comfort zone and grow.
Leaders should not play referee but rather have their finger on the pulse of the team to ensure that conflict stays in the healthy zone (dead center between too nice and too destructive).
An effective team leader will actively mine for (or induce) conflict. Mining can be successfully accomplished after some clear rules of engagement have been agreed upon by the team so members 1) know that it’s okay to have disagreements and 2) know where the boundaries are.
Want to stop boring a meeting? Create some healthy team conflict!
